How to Prepare for Your Visit

To protect your information and save time, follow these steps before you bring your computer in for service. Complete as many as possible, even if your computer won't turn on.

Essential Steps

  1. Back up your data (Rocket Squad offers this service if you need help).

  2. Have your login password ready.

  3. Disable startup passwords.

  4. Remove BIOS/firmware passwords, if set.

  5. Bring your device and charger.

Optional: Extra Privacy

If you're concerned about data privacy during service, create a new admin account, then delete your personal account and data before bringing the device in.

Document Your Issues

Jot down a few notes so we can get to the bottom of things faster:

  • Specific problems and symptoms

  • When the issues started

  • Recent changes (updates, new software, etc.)

  • Any error messages you've encountered

  • Warranty or purchase info, if applicable

Before Drop-Off

Data protection:

  • Sign out of all accounts (email, cloud, social media)

  • Document software licenses and product keys

  • Temporarily deactivate encryption software

  • Remove confidential documents

Hardware:

  • Remove USB devices and external drives

  • Note any physical damage

  • Clean the device exterior

  • Remove privacy screens or covers

  • Bring related accessories (excluding monitors, printers, and other large items)

System info:

  • Document your OS version and custom settings

  • List recently installed programs
